Wedding Elegance with a Maritime Twist

Wedding Couple
Dream of a Wedding in a Most Unique Setting
Your lifetime of memories starts here. Ministers Island is everything you have dreamed of for your special day. Our gentle acadian landscapes are the picture of natural beauty and unmistakable elegance. The quiet allure of the setting marries with a host of rustic Edwardian buildings on the summer estate of Sir William Van Horne, to create a timeless destination venue in St. Andrews, New Brunswick.

Our exclusive wedding venues range from the Covenhoven manor house to a sensitively restored 19th-century Bathhouse tower overlooking the Passamaquoddy Bay, to the ever-distinctive Edward-Maxwell designed barn, and many more. Elsewhere on the island, an array of outdoor wedding venues awaits your personal touch, spanning woodland, oceanside and pastoral settings.

A Special Kind of Place
Ministers Island has a keen sense of its own past and this nostalgic charm is imbued in all that will embrace your wedding here. The setting speaks clearly of a deep-rooted respect for Edwardian tradition, but it’s our one-of-a-kind location and unique approach to service that will ensure you and your guests actually feel part of the place.

Our style has all the attributes of charming seaside character: approachable, inclusive, and welcoming. The result is a warm atmosphere that permits you to feel as relaxed and cared for as possible. Settle into the renowned settings as they are and enjoy the luxurious feeling of an elegant bygone time.

With The Par La Mer Experience you have the option of keeping things simple and casual with a during-public-hours ceremony and celebrations, so long as you don’t mind sharing the 500-acre island with a few other visitors.

Or, with The Van Horne Experience the entire island could be your own in our exclusive through-the-tide wedding package. This option is for the couple seeking the most unique experience - when the estate of Sir William Van Horne no longer connects to the mainland and only you, your wedding party, and our helpful staff are on the island to celebrate you.

Our through-the-tide weddings can include private tours of our historic buildings and use of multiple locations on the island. This is the kind of unique wedding experience we can offer you! Custom designed to your tastes and preferences and executed exquisitely for your special day.

Your Wedding Ceremony
Amid the fields and mature evergreens; on the top of Shea’s hill overlooking rarely seen views of the bay; at the Gardener’s Cottage in front of the novel greenhouse with spectacular ocean scenery and lupin fields, joined by curious birds and deer... And that’s just skimming the surface of our outdoor wedding ceremony venues. The options for the location of your nuptials at Ministers Island abound.

Your Wedding Reception
With “I do” done and dusted, your guests’ attention – and appetites – will turn to the wedding reception. Drinks and restaurant-quality bites are on offer from our partners and local vendors. And while everyone is busy reviewing your star performance – to the strains of a string quartet perhaps? – you’ll have time for those momentous wedding portraits. Again, location options are as abundant as the nature around you.

A regal pose on the Covenhoven deck with the lavender lined walkway? Or something especially unique with the Dutch style stone windmill as your background? Or perhaps something a little more unbuttoned, amid the wildflowers of nearby meadows? The only challenge is in the choosing.

Your Party & After-Party
They always say allow yourself time to take it all in. Sitting under the luscious mature crimson maples and white oak trees standing guard over our Marquee Tent – a favourite for Instagram – is a charming spot to take in the hubbub of the dance floor and the live band you’ve booked. Or perhaps in the barn itself, within its expansive timber frame. Those wishing to continue the revelry from there, good, and bad dancing, karaoke, and other fun games may continue until the tide allows.

Wedding Experiences
To spark your imagination, take a glimpse into how these happy couples made the very most of Ministers Island and its charming setting.

Tra & John's Wedding
“We wanted to give our guests a real East Coast Canadian wedding experience, with a fun twist - Ministers Island made that happen for us! Our celebrations began with meeting our guests on the Covenhoven veranda for drinks and a grand tour of the manor house. We then played a joyful game of croquet on the front gardens, among other lawn games, as libations continued to pour. After working up an appetite, guests followed the sound of a train bell to a fine dining dinner service in the Bathhouse while overlooking the Passamaquoddy Bay. For the final legs of the day’s celebrations, the party proceeded to the barn for cake and dancing. Friends and family watched gold trimmed clouds mimic their moves as the sun set over the Bay to old-timey tunes played by the cellist and violinist. After lots of toasts and hugs, our guests were ushered by the delightful staff safely off the island, and my husband and I took a romantic stroll across the ocean floor in the moonlight.”

Jane & Christopher

“We were looking for a really special location for our ceremony and Ministers Island was the obvious choice! My Dad walked me down the aisle, but it was no regular aisle. It began on the veranda of the historic main house and spanned across the grand lawns toward the water’s edge, where we had set up a white rose covered arbor overlooking the oceanscape. Being able to host around 100 people for our celebrations produced an almost village-like atmosphere, an aspect we absolutely loved about our wedding. Our guests were able to explore around the island, in and out of different buildings, touring around the grounds. Then we all gathered in the Bar Station restaurant and were able to lounge with a couple of drinks before leaving the island for our reception!”

Helen & Aaron's Elopement
“We couldn’t recommend Ministers Island enough! The venue speaks for itself, it’s nothing short of unimaginable. We planned everything last minute and wanted something intimate and simple. What we got was exactly that, with an out-of-this-world element we could never have expected. It gave our moment everything it deserved organically. It was eleven of us in the Bathhouse sharing a meaningful ceremony while the ocean stood guard just outside. When I tell you we get wide eyes every time we try to explain our wedding venue to people, I’m not exaggerating. And because our ceremony was during the island’s off hours, we had the venue all to ourselves!”
